Job Title: Summer Intern

Term: 8 weeks

Compensation: $1,000 Peter P. Quinn Scholarship

GVF, a King of Prussia based transportation management association (TMA) focused on advocacy, sustainability and partnerships related to commuter transportation alternatives in the Greater Philadelphia area, is seeking a highly-motivated intern who is interested in gaining real
world work experience.  Through its Foundation, GVF TMA Foundation, the candidate will earn a $1,000 college scholarship at the completion of the term.

The internship, which will last from June 18, 2012 through August 13, 2012, will focus on the various aspects of working for a TMA.  As an organization that partners with such entities as PennDOT, SEPTA, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission and a number of local municipalities, local and national non-profits, and local, national and international engineering firms and major corporations, this internship will expose the student to a variety of organizations.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting with public policy initiatives
• Assisting with planning and working at GVF and GVF TMA Foundation hosted events
• Assisting with coordination of regional shuttles and other alternative transportation programs
• Assisting with social media updates
• Assisting with administrative duties

Requirements:

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite
• An interest in sustainability issues and transportation alternatives for commuters
• Reliable transportation

The intern will be expected to be in the King of Prussia office 16 hours per week, during traditional business hours. Days of the week and hours may depend on the student’s class schedule, GVF meeting schedules and events.  Flexibility is required.  During the term the intern will be invited to a lunch meeting with Rob Henry, GVF’s current Executive Director and a GVF Partner. Upon completion of the internship, the $1,000 Peter P. Quinn Scholarship will be paid directly to the student’s college or university.

The Peter P. Quinn Scholarship gives students, who are unsure of their career paths, the opportunity to learn how local government, engineering firms, chambers of commerce and large organizations function while gaining work experience in a professional environment.

Peter P. Quinn is the founder of the Greater Valley Forge Transportation Management Association (GVF) which was the first transportation management association in Pennsylvania. Peter retired as Executive Director of the organization in 2008, after 18 years of dedicated service to Chester and Montgomery Counties.  Peter passed away in March 2012. 

The GVF TMA Foundation is the leading nonprofit organization committed to the support and development of sustainable transportation initiatives that focus on improving the quality of life for those that live, work and play in the region.  The Foundation’s efforts build awareness and influence the impact of transportation issues by engaging the public, funding community outreach and developing of interactive educational programs.
